Regarding the news reported by China Times, “the US will not fight for Taiwan if Taiwan and China engage in war,” Ministry of National Defense claimed that Republic of China (Taiwan) is an important member of Asia-Pacific Region for keeping this region peaceful, stable and secure. Strong national defense is the power to safeguard the regional peace and national security. While facing exterior threats and challenges, the National Army upholds the military strategic guidance, “resolute defense and effective deterrence,” to not be involved in the thought of competing military equipment but to integrate existing defense resources and invest in building preliminary military equipment for preparing the combat. With new military strategic thinking and refined tactics, the National Army can continue to strengthen the crucial defense ability and build a high-mobility, low-volume but high-quality, high-performance, and high-precision combat force to deter the enemy and ensure the security of the country, making sure democracy and freedom can never be violated.

Ministry of National Defense emphasized that the National Army is the Army of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Ministry firmly believes “people help those who help themselves.” Our defense security should be controlled in our own hands. The National Army will have the determination and strength of self-defense and make great efforts to build the military and prepare for the war; therefore, the enemy will be afraid of paying high cost for the war and does not dare to start it easily. As a result, this can produce a deterrent effect and effectively exert the overall combat power to force the enemy fail the mission.

Ministry of National Defense pointed out, “Virtue is not left to stand alone; He who practices it has the neighbors.” The Republic of China (Taiwan) always plays an important role of peacekeeping in the region; therefore, those countries which also defend freedom, democracy and human rights as the core will be the partners and allies to cooperate together and make great efforts to stabilize the region together.
